We love how Shortform summarised Liz Gilbert’s definition of creativity: “The search for and excavation of universe-endowed gifts that are within us, hidden from our view. It’s simply a commitment to exploring your depths and bringing to light the powers that exist within you”.
Welcome to the Season of Buried Treasure. Welcome to your search and excavation. Welcome to exploring who you are and bringing your light forward.
This season is a journey where creativity is your compass and exploration is your guide. This month, we’re diving deep into the art of uncovering hidden gems within our creative practice, and we have an inspiring collection of lessons to help you dig up and celebrate your artistic treasures.
First, Karen Liz Hofius invites us to embrace the boundless freedom of art journaling. With her guidance, we’ll learn to navigate the exhilarating and sometimes overwhelming world of creativity. Karen will share her approach to starting with one idea, experimenting with different types of journals, and discovering our personal style through playful exploration. In her lesson, she’ll encourage us to find beauty in the present moment, using sensory experiences and mixed media to create vibrant, layered pieces that honour the magic of now.
Next, Liz Constable will take us on a studio tour and reveal the hidden gems in her creative toolkit. She’ll show us how to transform a blank journal cover into a canvas of colour and texture, using materials like gesso, coffee, and wrapping paper. Liz’s lesson is all about unleashing your inner artist and playing with layers and textures to create a journal cover that’s both unique and deeply personal.
Lastly, Ika Vantiani is sharing how to bring forth the ideas from within. Get excited about the types of treasures she puts in her art journal, and how you can make even something as mundane as food a delight, once it goes into the journal.
