The Short Version
Last updated: 1 August 2026 Effective: 1 August 2026
Nobody wakes up excited to read terms and conditions. So here's everything that actually affects you, in plain English, on one page.
This is a summary. The Terms of Use and Privacy Policy are the ones that legally count, and if this page and those pages ever disagree, those win. But we've written this so they shouldn't.
Your membership
You pay monthly or yearly. It renews automatically on the same date, until you cancel.
You can cancel any time, from the Subscriptions area of your account. Two clicks, no email required, no exit interview, no "are you SURE?" guilt trip.
Cancelling doesn't lock you out immediately. You keep your access until the end of the bit you've already paid for. Cancel on day three of a monthly membership and you're still in until day thirty.
Changed your mind entirely? 14 days, full refund, no reason needed. Counted from the day you joined. Cancel first so you don't renew while we sort it, then email yay@getmessyart.com and ask.
If we ever put the price up, you get 30 days' notice by email and it only applies from your next renewal. If you're not into it, cancel before then and you're not charged. No sneaky increases while you're not looking.
Your artwork
It's yours. It stays yours. Posting a journal page in the community doesn't hand us the rights to it. That would be a horrible thing to do to a room full of artists.
We ask before we share your work anywhere. Every single time. If we want to put your page on Instagram, in an email, or on the sales page, we ask you first and you can say no. Saying no changes nothing about your membership.
What you post is visible to other Messians in whatever group you posted it in. That's the point. It's not visible to the wider internet.
You can delete anything you've posted, whenever you like. Or email us and we'll do it for you.
What we do with your information
We collect what we need to run your membership. Your name, email, payment details, and what you get up to on the site.
We don't sell it. Not to advertisers, not to anyone. That's not a business we're in and it never will be.
Stripe handles the money. We never see your full card number.
Your information is stored in the US and accessed from South Africa, because that's where we are. If you're in Europe, that means it travels, and we've got the proper safeguards in place for it.
We use a handful of tools to keep the lights on – Circle for the community, Kit for emails, Intercom for support, Google Analytics to see which classes people love. They're listed in full in the Privacy Policy.
Your postal address, if you gave it to us, is used for tax records and for occasionally sending you happy mail. That's it.
Want to see what we have on you? Or want it gone? Email yay@getmessyart.com. We'll sort it within 30 days. No forms, no hoops, no asking why.
The one rule that matters the most
What's shared in the community stays in the community.
Get Messy works because people feel safe posting things that aren't finished, aren't perfect, or are a bit too honest. That only holds if everyone protects it.
So: don't screenshot, repost, quote or forward another member's art, words or personal stuff outside Get Messy without asking them first. During your membership and after it.
This one isn't a vibe. Break it and we'll close your account.
The boring but important bits
You need to be 18 or older to have an account.
Our classes are ours. Watch them, download them for yourself, print them for yourself, share links to them. Don't republish them, resell them or run them as your own workshop.
Tutorials sometimes involve sharp or hot things. Craft knives, glue guns, awls. Be sensible, they're your fingers.
We talk about mental health, we don't provide it. Get Messy is not therapy and nobody here is your therapist. If something lands hard, please talk to an actual professional.
We'll give you 30 days' notice before changing the terms, changing the price, or making a big change to what you're getting.
