Spring passes and one remembers one’s innocence.
Summer passes and one remembers one’s exuberance.
Autumn passes and one remembers one’s reverence.
Winter passes and one remembers one’s perseverance.

Meet this season’s guest artist

Julie Marriott is a painter, pattern designer, wife and mom from San Diego, California. She’s passionate about creating bold and joyful artwork for the color-loving soul. In between creating her colorful paintings, Julie loves to teach local acrylic painting workshops and share about her creative process through her podcast, Make Share Grow.

Every season brings with it new joys, new trials and growth. Whether it be a new season of life or the changing of the leaves, our lives are an endless cycle of seasons. This season at Get Messy we will explore the passing of time, the changing of temperatures, the frozen winters and the budding seeds of hope we grow with each turn of the earth. Our prompts will focus on helping you express your own evolution through your own life’s seasons, our tutorials will show you how to create the map of your relationship to the earth’s seasons and our guest artist will help your artwork bloom.

Come explore the intersection of nature + life with us in your art journal.

Meet this season’s Journal

This season we would love to encourage you to use a found book as your journal. This can be almost anything that is NOT a traditional art journal. Think: an old magazine, children’s book, card catalogue, paper bag. The possibilities here are endless! We want you to think as outside of the box as you can for this journal and really challenge yourself to Get Messy in a brand new way – in a way that doesn’t make a lot of sense! This will push your art to whole new levels and we can’t wait to watch you soar! Take some time to search your old stash of trash, the thrift store or a grandparents old bookshelf. Then get to know your book, what is the paper like? Does is need a layer of gesso to help it take wet mediums? Prep it so that when you’re ready to sit down to create the book is ready to be created in.

We would be honored for you to join us as we explore the seasons, grow as artists, make new friends and create art each week together.
