A Guide to Mixed Media Journaling

Messy Pages is like sitting down with your best friend and creating incredible art journal pages together that are full of heart and soul, pages that are bursting with inspiration and colour.

In this course you will create over 40 different types of pages using a large variety of tools, supplies and techniques.

Messy Pages includes tips for choosing the right journal, how to choose the best supplies and mediums for you, simple explanations for art journaling terms, supplies and how-to’s and examples and ideas on how to approach prompts to create pages. You will learn how to begin an art journal page by better understanding if your page needs gesso or not (and what the heck that even is). The course is jam packed with techniques and tutorials on how to use our favourite mediums like blending, calligraphy, gelli printing, using afferent pens and crayons (!!!), inks, acrylics, collage, gel mediums, watercolours and so so so many more!

This course is perfect for the beginner art journaler who would like to have someone walk them through the basics of understanding all the art journal lingo like mediums and gesso and what in the world a gelli plates is.

The course will challenge an experienced art journaler who desires to learn more fluid and experimental art techniques like painting galaxies, dreamy clouds, using inks, creating abstract backgrounds and so much more.

Messy Pages is all about stretching your art skills and supplies to create intuitive and messy pages to express yourself and your creativity in new ways

Should I choose the one-time payment or membership option?

You have the option for purchasing this class on its own or as part of the membership.

The choice depends on how you create.

Membership: the Get Messy membership is here for the creative soul with restless hands and a busy mind (and schedule), ready to cultivate a consistent art habit that allows you to release your truth, emotions and dreams onto the page. For those who prefer to live an all-encompassing creative life with catalysts that spur on the creative habit.

One-time payment: for the creative who loves knuckling down and diving deep into a class. Someone who prefers to focus on one thing and take the time it requires before moving onto the next. You might also be wanting to test the Get Messy teaching style out a bit and this is a good way to dip your toes in.

A journal, your current preferred supplies and an open heart! A detailed list of supplies is shared inside the course, but you likely have what you need on hand and we never recommend spending a lot of money on supplies without knowing how and if you will use them.

Since this is a self-paced class, we recommend tagging the teacher on Instagram when you share your work or sending her a DM.

Can I share my work and what I learn in this class?

Yes! Please share your work and your responses to the class on your social media sites of choice. We love Instagram, so share your pages using the course hashtag #gmmessypages and you may see your work shared on the Get Messy account. We also have Galleries with student work within Get Messy for very specific inspiration.
