Working with less with sjrondon today in getmessyartjournal #getmessymay

The idea here is as to start with a neutral background and add a block of color. If/when I do this again I need to leave more white space. In fact, I just realized I never brushed over the background with white paint…which would thoroughly explain the lack of white. Wow! Now that I had that lightbulb moment I can move on. I just KNEW I was missing something.

Anyway, yesterday I cleaned outside all day. I burned the burn pile, mowed down and dug up the overgrown area and flattened it. I planted shrubs and a tree I bought for my brother. Today I will either stay inside all day OR go to the garden center and get plants. I need color. Growth and beauty.

My husband told me someone asked how I was doing and his response was “apparently really hard work distracts her, she’s made 4 dump runs, dug out her flower beds, planted trees, redid the porch…”

I never even realized what I was doing, but yeah, I guess I am distracting myself. It’s working.

I had big plans today. I had a doctors appointment and then I picked up a little handheld sewing machine for my journals and was going to paint, play and sew after I mopped, dusted, and vacuumed.

I got the housework done and then I found out that our tiny little town would let us dump stuff since we missed the city dump day…so we loaded up our cars 5 times and dumped….and dumped…and dumped some more. I actually had to stop myself because it felt so good to just dump things I was about to start grabbing things I use!

But guys!!!! It was so freeing. Like a huge weight lifted.

anyway: my favorite square…hmmmm I don’t know. I love the color combo I have here if I do say so myself. I may have to work that Onto a page soon.

In other news if you slide the photo you’ll see me, not a drop of makeup, sitting on my porch. The cat…is NOT my cat.

For this page I added my thoughts as the base layer and covered them up with layers of paint.
Along with various marks I used my little mini stencil from stencilgirl_products -travel note- created by raemissigman

Although the words are not legible I love the texture and layered interest it created.

I found this poem called TCK (third-culture kid) and this particular line hit me! And reading the poem just resonated with me. Though I am not a TCK (in the literal sense), my kids are, and this poem hits all the emotions I have heard from my kids many times before.

New messy page in my Secret Garden book. First time using crackle paste. I didn't anticipate that the paper would react differently to the crackle paste compared to my 'normal' texture paste.🙈 The paper kind of shrinks like the paste. I can't fix it anymore. Messy May | Spark.

Creating this morning was just as hard as writing this caption. I kept overthinking everything! It wasn't okay for my creative mood. In the end I opened a random page in my journal, so I would at least try to not overthink the fact that my perfectionism wanted to make a page that matches the other ones.

Who am I kidding? It matches the other ones perfectly. But I stopped overthinking and enjoyed the process.

Edit: I really loved this quote because I was awake for awhile last night thinking about the baby and all the caring woman in his life after I had my babyshower yesterday. 🥰❤️
